When renovating or building it is vital to keep an accurate record of every detail relating to the project. Without knowing precisely what has been discussed, decided, planned or spent, it can easily lead to confusion, delays and increased costs. Important communications between home owners or renovators and their builders, tradespeople and suppliers are often done verbally or through scribbled notes. Such practices can lead to costly misunderstandings. Autorenporträt
The Home Renovation Diary has been written and compiled by Tam Kerr, former building editor with Better Homes and Gardens Magazine (Australia). Tam has renovated a number of properties and supervised the total build of another. On every occasion he worked closely with architects and designers as well as local authorities and planners. Liaising regularly with tradespeople and suppliers was a vital part of the success of all of the projects. Tam says, "Like any business, when building or renovating, getting the best out of those you have engaged is the key to achieving the most satisfying outcomes. I have always hired people who have been recommended or can show credible examples of their work. If you select your people and companies carefully at the outset, you will end up achieving the desired results while saving time, money and frustration along the way. Choosing the cheapest is not always the best way to go. Also I believe in treating those who I have employed fairly and with due consideration."
