Tom McEvoy became the World Poker Champion in 1983 when he won the World Series of Poker Main Event. He was elected to the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame in 3013. He pioneered many firsts in professional poker, including writing instructional books on tournament strategy, winning the Main Event via satellite, and leading the charge to eliminate smoking at poker tournaments.
