Imagine you are 12 years old in 1959, live in a tough, post-World War II, ethnically mixed New York neighborhood, and spend most of your summer in the basement of a local diner run by a Greek guy of questionable character. You fetch cigarettes, beer, and sandwiches from "upstairs" for five adult hoodlums (one carries a small pistol in his back pocket) who seem to play an endless game of five-card draw poker. In return, you get to hang out, smoke, drink an occasional beer, and (best of all) receive cash tips for running upstairs to collect food orders from the Greek. "The Fulgurite Farm" was inspired by the author's pre-teen summer experience with these characters. TJ lives in rural Kentucky at the edge of a 1200 acre thoroughbred horse farm with his wife, Candace, and their two dogs, Patsy Cline and Sarah Rarah
