The current enlisted promotion system provides a fair and visible way for enlisted members to get promoted. However, does this system promote the Air Force's best leaders into the Senior NCO ranks and does it promote them more quickly than lesser leaders? While the Weighted Airman's Promotion System does adequate job in this regard, the system makes it difficult to distinguish exceptional leaders from average ones. Outstanding leaders do not receive the points-credit they deserve for top-tier performance. Modifications to the current system will alleviate these issues. Certainly, the enlisted promotion systems of sister services prove instructive when considering possible changes to the Air Force system. Overall, changing the WAPS points-allocation, adding an E-7 operational board, and increasing Stripes for Exceptional Performers allotments will make the necessary corrections to the system.
