Pyrazolopiperidines, 5-aryl tetrahydrodibenzophenanthridines, 2-aryl-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines, imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine fused oxazoles and quinoline based complexes were synthesized and their potential applications in fluorescence sensor and OLEDs were explored. Pyrazolopiperidine derivatives exhibit intense green fluorescence both in solid and solution states with non-overlapping absorption and emission spectrum. Synthesis of a series of light emitting 5-aryl-tetrahydrodibenzo[a,i]phenanthridines was developed by modified synthetic protocol using SnCl2 as a catalyst in moderate to good yields. Luminescent imidazo[1,2-a] pyridines was achieved by a one-pot, tandem process starting with an A3-coupling followed by 5-exo-dig cyclization. A simple, chemoselective and efficient route to luminescent imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine fused oxazoles was achieved by a two step, one-pot, tandem process. The optical studies of electron donor/acceptor substituted 2-(4-phenylquinolin-2-yl) phenol boron complexes exhibited luminescence in solution and solid states with large Stokes shift values. Quinoline based heteroleptic Ir(III) complexes was synthesized and studied their potential applications in OLEDs.
