Information transmitted in the form of digital images is becoming a major method of communication in the modern age, but the image obtained after transmission is often corrupted with noise. Information transmitted in the form of digital images is becoming a major method of communication in the modern age, but the image obtained after transmission is often corrupted with noise. Image de-noising is an important pre-processing task before further processing of image like segmentation, feature extraction; texture analysis etc., the purpose of de-noising is to remove the noise while retaining detailed features as much as possible. Impulsive noise is generally introduced while transmitting image data over an unsecure communication channel or added while acquiring. The algorithms presented in the study, DNBUTMV and UTMF_AS DET perform better for various impulse noises and their variants in images and videos, as justified by both the qualitative and the quantitative measures. The algorithms can be applied for noise removal algorithm in finger print images, character images, medical images, satellite images and non real time videos.
