By the year 2050, Chennai is prospected to become a developed city due to rapid socio-economic growth. This phenomenon in turn leads to strong urbanization. Due to urbanization, the present drainage system, is incapable of carrying heavy downpour of rainfall which ultimately leads to flood in the city during 2005 and 2015 flood event. This incident has brought attention to the scientific community to undertake this study. Therefore, this research is an insight of mitigating flood through structural measures which is implemented through modeling techniques in the Chennai city, specially in the Adayar watershed that occurred during extreme rainfall events of 2005 and 2015.The research is carried out in four stages. In the first stage the prime objective of the research is focused on the development of a high resolution Digital Elevation Model for the Adayar watershed using LiDAR data sets, that is suitable for accurate prediction of flooding extent and flood depth for two dimensional flood analysis. Thus, the first stage came to an end.The second stage of the research focused on the estimation of the quantity of runoff discharged into the river using Mouse model.
