The current fallow land available in Andhra Pradesh during 2018-19 was 14.51 Lakh Ha. where in the land was being kept vacant without cultivation across seasons of the referred agricultural year. One of the reason behind the current fallows being left without cultivation is the non availability of irrigation facilities at least in rabi season. In addition, the higher costs involved in getting power connection might be obstructing farmers from bringing additional area into cultivation. The other obstacles might be the unawareness of farmers about the suitable time and package of practices to be followed while bringing additional area into cultivation. The agricultural sector being plagued by labour shortage and skills for the last many years could be rejuvenated due to the return of migrant labour due to the corona pandemic. The returning migrant labour should be viewed as an opportunity but not a threat in the effort for sustainable intensification of current fallows in Andhra Pradesh there by improving the socio-economic situation and to achieve sustainable and comprehensive food and nutritional security in addition to create additional employment opportunities in the rural areas.
