The federal democracy of India has been undergoing a transition from the dominant party system (1952-1976) to the coalition system of the present day. It shows that the socio-cultural pluralism has strengthened itself, and it is made politically operational in India. The Indian coalition politics represents a wide spectrum of interests in tune with the federal nature of Indian society. Increasingly, primordial loyalties have been dictating the electoral voting and political alliance behaviour particularly since 1989.
