This study evaluates the performance of the overall rent collection in public institutions in the wake of repealed RRA No 17 of 1984.The study is divided into four chapters. Chapter one gives an insight of the research problem while highlighting the statement of the problem, objectives, significance and scope of the study, research methodology. Also covered different views from various authors concerning rent collection in general and various legislation. Chapter two discusses the overview of rent assessment and collection i.e. method of rent collection, types of rent, rental payment, rent control rent decontrol, rent assessment and law governing rent control in Tanzania. Chapter three covers the case study in general. The historical background of NHC and TBA, and aspect of rent collection methods used to them, also the study looks in the various aspects strategies used in collecting rent, trends of rent collection for five years for NHC and three years for TBA and impact of repealed Rent Restriction Act to NHC.
