Jenny Robin attends their meeting. Vic's intrigued she's the beautiful woman he saw in the Dusseldorf court. She has her own reasons to see Baker's demise blaming him for her husband's death. The trio devise a plan to trap Baker making him bid for the drugs and his car. Baker, infuriated kidnaps Jenny aboard his boat bartering her for the car. Vic leaps aboard Bakers boat to rescue her. Fighting at sea the boat catches fire. Jenny and Vic take refuge in a dinghy and drift away as the boat explodes and Baker's blown to smithereens. Coast guard helicopter investigating the fire lifts them both to safety and into each others arms.

Devastated by the death of his parents at the age of fourteen, orphaned he's taken into a residential trust school in Highbury, North London. His education included English, German and Mathematics. His parental home is sold in his absence. Destitute, he's forced into the Army at the latter half of the WWII. He is trained as an infantry man and served in the North African Desert, Malayan jungle and Europe, into Germany. He's twice very seriously injured and survived. Having no home to return to after the war he signs on to complete 20 years service, but because of war wounds he was no longer fit for front line action and enlists in The Royal Electrical Engineers where he trains to become an expert in the design and the testing of military vehicles. Immediately after negotiating himself redundant out of the army he's taken into the Ministry of Transport, given an appointment of Examining Engineer in Dorset, serving until retired. 'The Lesser Evil' is an exciting thrilling novel that leads your mind and adequately rewards your reading time.
