Autorenporträt
Viorel Bilauca was not happy. Romania, under the dictator Ceausescu, had for more than fifteen years closed its borders. Nobody could go out of the country, not even as a tourist. The regime cut all communication with the West. Life became very tough. Viorel had no choice. Looking for a better standard of life and freedom, he was ready to do anything to save his large family from imminent disaster. He made the decision to escape. Knowing that competition brought quality, he dreamed of getting on top of the world, so he headed to America. January 1979 became the turning point in his and his family's lives. He arrived, very happy to be an American, but not without paying the price. Viorel lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.
