William Turton, known most of his life as Bill was born in 1929 in Upper Denby in the borough of Kirklees West Yorkshire. As a young man he was called to National Service in Aiden. On his return he lived around South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, with a brief period in Australia. Bill finally settled down in the Lakelands of Cumbria. He ran the Post Office in Burneside village for a number of years with his wife Patricia. He co-founded the Burneside Brass Band which is performing to this day.
