Current fiber length measurement systems have some weaknesses especially in short fiber content (SFC) determination, which is becoming an important length parameter in industry. It is possible to measure fiber length more accurate and precise than existing methods of HVI, AFIS and hand measurement. However there is a problem to overcome to make it a common method: time. Processing time can be reduced to desired levels by using faster computers, better software techniques and developed image capturing systems. But fiber preparation for image processing will be the real challenge. Fibers should be individualized without breaking them and aligned as compact as possible to make faster analysis. On the other hand, to be used as a calibration device for current systems, the processing time becomes less important than accuracy and precision.
