Land degradation (LD) significantly poses potential threats to global human life over the long term. The main driving forces of LD in the 21st century, particularly in developing countries are including climate change, increasing population growth, rapid urbanization and industrialization. Due to the economic costs linked with the undesirable impacts of LD, developing conservative management approaches is indispensable action from a policy perspective. Towards this, the present book represents a synthesis of the finding of several literature reviews to provide comprehensive information on LD indicators and different new assessment approaches in various spatiotemporal scales and given solutions in an industrial watershed with an arid and semi-arid climate, central Iran, i.e., Shazand Watershed. This helps environmental managers, soil scientists, agriculturalists, as well as policymakers and other related stakeholders to deal with LD in the sound manner in the future.

Zeinab Hazbavi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Natural Resources, and Member of Water Management Research Institute, University of Mohaghegh Ardabili, Iran. She received several awards and published different national and international papers cited in the Scopus, Google Scholar and ResearchGate.
