C.O.P.D.: Active Cycle of Breathing Technique is a breathing exercise that helps in the clearance of the airways. This maneuver can be performed by the patient itself. Flutter is a mechanical device that also helps in airway clearance. It increases the collateral ventilation by creating a Positive Expiratory Pressure(PEP). As both these techniques are helpful in clearing airways, both of them can be used by the patient suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and its exacerbation. In A.C.B.T, various phases are used to expel out the secretions so that the airways are cleared. These include deep inspiration, breathing control, thoracic expansion and force expiratory technique like coughing or huffing whereas in flutter a forceful expiration through the mouthpiece is done and positive expiratory pressure is created. It then helps in clearing the secretions from the airways.
