This publication consists of an investigation into some of the practices of historical memory carried out in Chile through Art in Public Space. To this end, it develops a conceptual and historical analysis that goes from the "Commemorative Statuary" typical of the new American republics of the early nineteenth century, to the "Memorial Monuments" developed during the post-dictatorship democratic governments of the early twenty-first century. This analysis focuses on two case studies in reference to the capacity of this type of production to generate "Historical Memory", allowing us to reflect in particular on the location of each of these pieces in the public framework and their repercussions at the socio-political, urban design and identity levels. The study pieces "Un lugar en la Memoria-Paine" and "Mujeres en la Memoria", from Santiago.
