Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa, it has an estimated population of over 170,507,539 million people, it is richly endowed with diverse flora and fauna and these provide materials for food, medicine, shelter, clothing etc. With the incessant increase in population and the increase in food production, more pressure is placed on the land. Coupled with these is modernization which includes; construction of schools, roads, industries/factories, houses, shopping malls, market stalls etc. The incessant increase in population has also led to the increase in demand for food, wood and other raw materials. Refunding of research institute by the government is not enough for projects to be carried out. Apart from our forest food serving as food, it also serves as medicine. Many of the difficulties encountered in the formulation of methods for the conservation of tropical gene resources are due to lack of sufficient information on the food value, genetics, appropriate propagation methods, economic and medicinal values of these tree species, an uninformed person who does not understand the importance of tree planting will consume these fruits without proper propagation.
