Labeo rohita (Ham.) commonly called as rohu is the most preferred and cultured freshwater major carp of national importance in India. It is a popular table fish because of its unique taste and several other attributes leading to a highest consumer preference among carps. Monsoon dependent breeding restricts its seed production beyond season indicating a strong genetic control about which very limited information is available. To delineate the genetic complexity of reproduction and growth, we have developed and tested the expressed sequence tag/transcripts through Gold Standard Sanger Sequencing and advance Next Generation Sequencing. This will serve as an important and valuable resource for gene identification and functional analysis of specific traits in Labeo rohita reproduction genetics and genomics. Additionally, we can create a transcript based array for screening of rohu reproduction.
