Cement Kiln Dust (CKD) is a voluminous co-generatedproduct of the cement manufacturing process. Thisbook presents the feasibility of incorporating CKD,from various sources, as a replacement for Portlandcement in the development of Controlled Low StrengthMaterials (CLSM) with acceptable properties. The findings show that with a little Portland cementand moderate volumes of CKD a good mix that easilysatisfies the requirements of CLSM can be developed.Suitable CLSM mixes can also be produced withoutPortland cement, using CKD alone. The latter mixesshowed reasonable fresh and hardened properties, however, increased shrinkage was observed.Sustainable development in the cement industry can beachieved by producing CLSM with moderate volumes ofCKD as it reduces the use of Portland cement andconsumes a co-generated product that has little or nocurrent use. This book should be useful to cementcompanies or anyone else in the construction industrythat is interested in a cost effective sustainable CLSM.
