Ellen Venus Smalls was born in Detroit, MI. She is the youngest child from a very large family. In the early 1990s, she moved to Fort Lewis, WA, where she continued her high school education. In 1992 she moved to Puyallup, WA, with her family and graduated from Puyallup High School in June 1993. While taking care of a sibling who was born with developmental disabilities, she developed a passion for the healthcare field. In 1996 she started working as a CNA in assisted living and was then promoted to med tech within the same company. In the same year, she began working with patients dealing with Parkinson's and early-onset dementia. In January 1998, she started at the American College for Professional Education, where she received her degree as a medical assistant and phlebotomist. Several years later she returned to college to pursue a different direction within the medical field. In June of 2006, she graduated with her associate degree in applied technology. She worked for St. Frances and St. Peters hospitals as a surgical tech, working alongside various surgeons. From 2008 to 2015, she worked as a case manager and trained new staff members in how to care for people who suffer from developmental disabilities. In 2016, she became a licensed minister at Into His Chambers Global Ministry. In 2020, she married the love of her life, Hezekiah Smalls, and together they have been ministering to young men and women. They have helped them with housing, clothing, and other resources. She is currently back in school for her master's in mentorship and life coaching.
