Multiple cropping is a one-year cropping system in which two (double cropping) or more crops are grown in succession within a year. Intercropping is growing of two or more crops simultaneously on the same field. Therefore, this book is intended to select suitable varieties of common bean for double cropping with maize, assess the effect of double cropping on yield, yield components and disease incidence and severity of the component crops, and compare the productivity of the double cropping system with sole cropping. Accordingly, suitable varieties of common bean were selected for double intercropping with a single growing season of maize. This system helped efficient use of growth resources of the companion crops with suppressing effect on major insect pests and diseases and with comparative yield advantages. Therefore, the manuscript can be served as an input for researchers, development workers, graduate and undergraduate students and by far as a field guide for subsistence resource poor farmers.
