It involves the process of understanding, decoding the writer's words and then using background knowledge to construct an understanding of the writer's message. Reading comprehension has been found to be important to low-achieving students, not just for pleasure, but to enable them to understand information for proper adjustment in the academic and social environments. Low-achieving students are those students whose achievements are consistently below average grade level, and who may have numerous aversions associated with learning. Some researchers recommended some reading strategies with the propensity of improving low-achievers' interest and achievement in reading comprehension, but comprehension monitoring strategy (CMS) is the most appropriate. CMS is the ability of a reader to be aware, while reading, whether a text is making sense or not. This study, however, found that CMS tremendously boosts male and female low achievers' achievement and interest in reading comprehension.
