The effect of Zingiber officinale essential oil on the growth inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 MRSA was evaluated. The essential oil was obtained by steam distillation method; it was diluted in 0.1% Tween 80 to obtain concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. To determine the sensitivity of Staphylocccus aureus, the diffusion method was used in Kirby Bauer agar. The diameter of the halos was measured in millimeters for the quantification of growth inhibition. The results of the test showed inhibition halos of 9.10 mm at a concentration of 5%, 12 mm at 10%, at 15%, 14.1 mm at 15% and 16 mm at 20%, demonstrating the inhibition of the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. There is a significant difference between the concentrations applied.
