The old days of easy-going attitudes to laboratory safety and teaching are over. In addition, there is a clarion call to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry and other sciences to make them appealing to the younger generation who are gradually loosing interest in science-related disciplines. The overall objective of this handbook is to introduce a comprehensive overview on the fundamentals of laboratory teaching and safety for laboratory workers in the chemical sciences as well as other personnel in the allied sciences. Two unique features are evident in this handbook. First, the book presents the how of laboratory teaching. It is not intended to be a cookbook that presents a set of instructions to be followed by the laboratory instructor. Rather, self-appraisal, fundamental principles, and skill development required for effective laboratory teaching are detailed. Second, the book gives a lucid introduction to laboratory management, chemical safety and prudent chemical handling. Finally, remember, to teach is to learn twice. Enjoy the nuggets for effective lab teaching and safety practices.
