The population of the city of Goma lives in a disaster-prone area. The city of Goma is bordered to the north by the Nyiragongo volcano, which is still active, and to the south by Lake Kivu. The Nyiragongo volcano erupted in January 2002, resulting in material and human losses and massive displacement of the population. In the face of a lava flow, a large part of the town was destroyed. In addition, the lake contains huge quantities of untapped methane gas that could explode in time, endangering the entire population. Another eruption in May 2021. In addition, uncontrolled construction in some areas of the city is a source of increased vulnerability to repeated fires. The objective of this study is to identify the different risks to which the population is exposed and also to determine the level of knowledge of these risks by this population in order to increase their resilience to disasters. The problem is therefore as follows: Is the population aware of these risks? To what extent does the population have knowledge and understanding of disaster risks?
