This dissertation was the first work done used molecular technique (Short Tandem Repeats-SSR) on goat breeds of Tamil Nadu, India to select the animal depended on both genotype and phenotype, also tried to find correlation between molecular markers with economical traits. Identification and characterization of breeds is a must to identify the genetic resources and also to prioritize breeds for conservation and development. Genetic variation is the raw material for the animal breeders, which is used to mold domestic animal species to people's needs. The increasing data on genetics of goat breeds using different genetic markers will help to understand the evolutionary history of Goats better. The objectives of this dissertation: Molecular characterizations of the Kanni Adu, Kodi Adu and Salem Black goat breeds depending on microsatellites DNA markers. A list of FAO recommended SSR markers were used to tract the genetic diversity. This book will be helpful for the people working in the field of animal breeding, AnGR conservation and Livestock Development.
