Power distribution transformers are pertinent and essential components for electrical energy transfer in a power system industry. As the low voltage power distribution transformers are used in the distribution of power less or equal to 250KVA apparent power and 36KV of Active power to various secondary users. Stability, protection and security of these low power distribution transformers are pre-eminent to system operation and controls. For investigating the performance of Smart Transformers in the above system, two transformers supplying the same load (in an area where both AC and DC loads are used extensively) are simulated; one low voltage conventional power transformer (LV-CPT) is replaced by the proposedlow voltage smart transformer whiles the other feeder is continued to be supplied through the LCPT. In this scheme, the LV-SPT is operated such that both AC and DC are supplied, grid power quality is maintained and modernization of the distribution system optimization by integrating various distributed generation resources(DER) and the Electric Vehicle(EVs) technologies for the total grid power of the system to balance sinusoidal with approximately unity power factor.
