Nutmeg is commonly used as a spice in various dishes, as components of teas and soft drinks or mixed in milk and alcohol. I investigated the quantitative phytochemical constituents of the extracts of nutmeg and aqeous extract of Guiera senegalensis, their antioxidant properties, as well as the cytotoxicity test for both extracts, and the effect of chronic consumption of nutmeg on the kidney of adult albino rats and the possible protective role of Guiera senegalensis. The plants extracts were subjected to cold maceration. In this method, a polar solvent (water) and non-polar solvent (chloroform) was used for Guiera senegalensis and nutmeg respectively.
