All the papers in the book are related to theoretical problems of spatial modelling and semiotic means applied for creating spatial models. Both ways of representation - modelling via mimetic likeness to a represented object and coding through conditional semiotic systems - are considered in their interaction. The internal mental models are researched as well as the external models embodied in the real spatial constructions. Specific spatial codes and the ways of their participation in the constructing and interpreting various spatial models are discussed here. The book contains, particularly, descriptions of the special codes mediating architect's thinking when planning meaningful spatial constructions and of the percepto-graphic code used for creating and perceiving depictions. An integrative spatial model of semiosis itself - a scheme of the "sign prism" including other famous schemes of sign situation - is also given in the book as an example of spatial modelling on the conceptual level of mind.
