Many business strategy models have been developed in the last 50 years, but only one strategic book provides a simple and clear model of an overall strategy-development-process: "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. The 2300 year old, Chinese book is highly valued by many managers for its wise and philosophical strategic rules. Those rules are of such simplicity that they can be transferred into business strategy. Today's competition among companies, especially those operating internationally, has become as fierce as the competition between the various Chinese kingdoms in the "Warring States period" 453-221 B.C.. While companies are fighting for business interests in market shares, customers and profit, a nations interest is in the acquisition of another nations territory, resources and wealth. Both, warfare and business deal with compatible interests; therefore, Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" provides a sophisticated model for developing strategy.
