Autorenporträt
E. A. Wallis Budge (1857-1934) was a British Egyptologist, Orientalist, and philologist who worked for the British Museum and held the position of Keeper of the Department of Egypt and Assyria. During his prolific career, Budge authored a wealth of books related to ancient civilizations, with particular emphasis on Egyptology and Assyriology. His scholarship was influential during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, despite later criticisms concerning some of his translations and interpretations. One of his notable works, 'The Babylonian Legends of the Creation', delves into the mythologies and cosmogonies of ancient Babylon, providing insights into Mesopotamian culture and religious thought. Budge's literary style is characterized by an attempt to make ancient texts accessible to a wider audience, and his works often include translations of primary sources accompanied by extensive commentaries. Although his methods have since been surpassed by later scholarship, Budge's writings continue to serve as a foundation for enthusiasts of ancient Near Eastern studies. His contributions, while dated, showcase the evolution of Assyriology and Egyptology during his time.
