Born to an unmarried mother in 1949 Graham Sutherland spent three years in a children¿s home. His mother married and he was returned to her in 1952. He lived in London before moving to Ashford in 1953. His stepfather worked at Ashford Railway Works. Graham left school at sixteen to take a six year printing apprenticeship as a compositor then linotype keyboard operator. He married in 1973 and moved to Frome in Somerset working as a printer for Butler and Tanner. In 1975 he established his own cleaning business. Graham has two sons and a daughter. In 1995 he returned to Ashford and is now retired.
