In addition, the tourism and hospitality sector does not have a minimum wage to act as a guide, to employers when pegging the starting wages and salaries for their employees. This implies that each hotel comes up with its own payment system, which may be very different from what the other hotels of similar size and star grading are offering.

The corresponding author, Ketiya Cathrine Sunde, holds a Master¿s degree and a Bachelor degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management.The co-author, Cleopas Njerekai, is a lecturer at Midlands State University who teaches various courses in Tourism and Hospitality.
