An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as a drone, is an aircraft without any human pilot, crew, or passengers on board. There are diverse areas of application for drones in agriculture, as they can be integrated with novel technologies, computing capacities and onboard sensors to enable crop management (e.g. mapping, irrigation monitoring, crop diagnosis), early warning systems for disaster preparedness, the protection of wildlife and support forestry, just to name a few. Similarly, drones could be used in multiple agricultural activities, including crop and growth monitoring, yield estimation, water stress assessment, and weed, pest, and disease detection. Drones can be used not only for surveillance, estimation and detection purposes on their sensory data, but also for precision irrigation and precise weed, pest and disease management. In other words, drones are able to spray water and pesticides in precise amounts based on environmental data.
