Infectious diseases are a prominent cause of death in developing countries. Inappropriate use of antibiotics consumption has led to increased incidence of antibiotic resistance and various issues like poor treatment outcomes, increased cost, increased mortality and morbidity. For the above given problems so the government of India proposed to introduce the New Antibiotic Policy in 2011, Schedule HX, under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940. The present study is a cross-sectional and observational conducted in a private community pharmacy. The present study is to find the appropriateness of the higher generation antibiotics in the out-patient Settings. The book provides an overview on Rational Drug Use (RDU), Medication Appropriateness Index (MAI), problems arising due to overuse of antibiotics, drug utilization studies, Schedule Hx, prescription pattern of antibiotics in community pharmacies. Considering the fast growing of clinical pharmacy activity in India, the book is developedto be a companion for both pharmacy practice and public health. who plan to do studies on medication appropriateness for under graduate, post graduate and Ph.D thesis too.

Dr. Akram Ahmad is intern under Doctor of Pharmacy (P.B.) at Annamalai University. He had his B.Pharm Degree SHIATS. His areas of interest are Pharmacy practice and Public Health. He has published several scientific and professional articles in International and National Journals.He has attended and presented 30 papers in various Confrences.
