Rice is a staple food crop for half of the world population. Variety identification is a major challenge for a rice breeder for genetic improvement of rice crop. Biochemical and Molecular markers are gaining popularity among rice breeders for identification of varieties. This work has been done to test different biochemical and molecular markers to identify rice varieties, genotypes and also to parents and hybrids. Based on this study it has been concluded that isozymes, protein and DNA based molecular markers may be used for exact identification of rice varieties/genotypes.
