This book is Sang-Ho Yun's Ph.D. work at StanfordUniversity. It contains radar image processingparts and geophysical modeling parts. The dataprocessing parts introduce an optimal algorithm torecover missing regions of digital elevation model(DEM) and an algorithm to form an interferometricradar image of large ground deformation. Thegeophysical modeling parts describe a new method toestimate the detailed shape and the pressure ofunderground cracks filled with liquid suchas low viscous magma. The new techniques in bothparts are applied to volcano deformation modeling ofthe eruption event at Sierra Negra volcano inGalapagos Islands in October 2005. The eruptionevent was preceded by an earthquake of magnitude 5.4and caused one of the most complex deformationpattern for radar imaging and geophysical modeling. This book shows a good example of volcanodeformation modeling using radar images in amechanically consistent way.
