The unplanned development activities have put considerable pressure on the coastal areas of the east coast of India, particularly Andhra Pradesh, which have already had an effect on the coastline and its ecology. In view of the above, one of the main research lines of the author is to undertake detailed studies of coastal tract water resources for its protection and development. A special analysis of rivers, estuaries, wetlands and beaches etc along the east coast along with temporal and spatial changes has also been given special importance to this end. But the ancient sand dunes do not receive adequate attention as important coastal ecosystems on their own, and their role in stabilizing the coastline is largely overlooked. Recently, coastal communities have recognized the value of sand dunes in protecting the coastal hamlet, and their role in preventing the invasion of salt water as a result of large wave flooding. As part of the above, this book covers a wide range of perception on the development, remarks and current status of ancient sand dunes of Nellore coastal zone between the Kandaleru and Swarnamukhi rivers, located in Nellore district of southern Andhra Pradesh, India.
