A special analysis of rivers, estuaries, wetlands and beaches etc along the east coast along with temporal and spatial changes has also been given special importance to this end. But the ancient sand dunes do not receive adequate attention as important coastal ecosystems on their own, and their role in stabilizing the coastline is largely overlooked. Recently, coastal communities have recognized the value of sand dunes in protecting the coastal hamlet, and their role in preventing the invasion of salt water as a result of large wave flooding. As part of the above, this book covers a wide range of perception on the development, remarks and current status of ancient sand dunes of Nellore coastal zone between the Kandaleru and Swarnamukhi rivers, located in Nellore district of southern Andhra Pradesh, India.
