Theitalicizedare just some of the lines from this book of poetry that awaken us to our awesome privilege ofbeing alive, unlike almost everything else in the universe, as we are
lit up for such a short time.
Unfortunately, we may only have these realizations at a funeral, or when we stand on the beach alone at night looking at the stars. But with this book magically come these precious birds into our hands, these poems: intimate creations, smoldering, precious awakenings.
We can feel a compass in these formed words, Howard Seeman's poetry.
Simply keep this wonderful book of poetry near you when you cannot get to the ocean.

Howard Seeman is Professor Emeritus, City University of New York, where he has taught educational psychology, group dynamics and human relations since 1970. He was also an individual and group psychotherapist for twenty years, earning his Ph.D. in philosophy and social psychology at the New School University, New York City.
A consultant to troubled schools and teachers, Prof. Seeman is the author of the book: Preventing Classroom Discipline Problems; A Classroom Management Handbook with a companion training Video/CD used in U.S. schools coast to coast, and in over thirty countries. He is certified inThe Training of School Violence Prevention and Intervention and teaches an online course at: http://www.ClassroomManagementOnline.com/ .
Born in 1942, he has been writing poetry for over fifty years. He is a Certified Poetry Therapist, and a licensed English and Social Studies teacher, who taught literature and poetry in the New York City schools for six years. He also conducted poetry groups for twenty years, and his poetry has been published in many local journals. He is a frequently invited reader at many bookstores, cafes and community art organizations.
Influenced greatly by e. e. cummings, Seeman says that he tries "to honor how experiences honestly present themselves, rather than heed the rules of language that can distort the poetic expression of these intimate, aliveexperiences."
Recently, Howard realized that his main regret would have been not to have published his poetry. So, now, no regrets. He says that he will feel successful with this book if he simply hears that readers feel like giving his poetry as gifts to loved ones.
