The science of "Vrana" seems to be a serious matter of concern to the ancient healers. This fact can be very well understood while going through the surgical compendium -Sushruta Samhita where a good number of chapters deal with the science of Vrana alone. Though a variety of chemical substances have been evaluated and patented as wound cleansing and healing agents, their inability to become successful drugs is due to the fact that these are able to act only at a particular step of the cleansing and healing cascade. It is therefore, necessary that these agents of optimum biological activity have to be based on a border mechanism of the healing process. It is likely that more effective wound debridement and healing agents would be developed from natural products. The same is endeavor by Ayurvedic experts anciently; the present work is also a further step in this path. Vrana implies damage of the part leading to discolorations better understood in terms of discontinuity of skin, muscles, mucus membrane etc. According to onset of wound, pathogenesis and characters; it can be established in the form of Agantuja (Traumatic wound) &Nija (Ulcers) Vrana.
