The growth of large interconnected power system in recent year demands secured operation of power system. Modern power systems built with non-linear characteristics are highly integrated with wide geographical distribution and hence demands optimization of power system networks. The operating strategy of the power system network is to derive maximum benefits of improved performance and enhanced reliability. The conventional approach on power system networks has been analyzed for reliable and cost-effective transfer of power. Though well developed, only local optima are achieved with conventional approaches. In order to overcome the limitation in handling mixed variables and limited convergence properties, intelligent techniques are being explored in this book.
