Cyanobacteria is the renewable resource which can be easily obtained and fast growing than higher plants, so the EPS production from it can be very cost effective. The development of biotechnological applications of cyanobacterial EPS depends on the identification of culture parameters that control the synthesis of EPS. Nitrogen affects the carbohydrate synthesis both quantitatively and qualitatively in a species-specific manner, indicating different control patterns in each strain. Thus for the highest EPS production by the sample the nitrate content for it must be optimized.
